weekend tromp
The snow is thinish on the ground right now. Not enough to need snowshoes by a long shot, but enough still for a good snow tromp this weekend. Checking on the fairy house and looking for tracks and pounding on the ice with sticks to see if it will crack. We had a thaw one day last week, enough that the creek was almost a river, but it's back to frozen again, all icicles and little caves with water bubbling under it. I'm ready for a good heavy snowfall, and a long snowshoe hike. But this was just the thing for this weekend. A good walk and then back to the fire to warm up.

Is the thing someone is holding in their hand a piece of birch bark?
ReplyDeleteWe have even less snow in Maine than you do, and though the natives are celebrating, I'm fervently hoping for a blizzard. :) The first winter we were here the snow covered the entire seat and crept up the back of a free-standing swing.
Global warming stinks!
Can't decide if it's global warming or what, but our winter last year was so mild it was scary, and this winter we had a record number of below-zero nights, and below-freezing highs. Finally back to more "normal" temps--teens overnight and 40 or so for a high.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, is that a tiny willow chair next to a cave?
It is birch! And some moss as well. She went digging in the snow to find it. Despite the birch bark EVERYWHERE she's still fascinated by it.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, that is a little willow chair. And a teeny tiny birdhouse. And inside there is a bed and a cradle and table and chairs even a closet that opens. :)
When we moved in to the house, Evie wrote the fairies a very sweet note asking them to move back into the little stone cave/house we found in the woods. And they did! The garden appeared this summer complete with birdhouses and tools and a white picket fence and little potted ferns. And then this Christmas Nana and Poppa made all sorts of furniture for us to give to the fairies. They have a pretty swanky pad, I must say. I'll have to take more photos of it.
